CHCA Celebrates 25 Years and Looks to the Future

I had the opportunity to visit with many of you at the Executive Dialogue meeting in Dallas last week. During the meeting, several of you helped us begin shaping CHCA’s 25th anniversary by participating in a videotaping of Owners’ perspectives of our last 25 years and vision of CHCA’s future. The CEOs who participated all acknowledged tremendous growth and depth of the organization. We grew from a handful of hospitals focused on investments to an exclusive network of high performing children’s hospitals with a strong GPO as the engine that drives our financial savings and returns. With a focus on performance improvement, our data, research and quality initiatives have helped establish national standards in pediatrics. You should be proud of the last 25 years.

As for the next 25 years, each of you will experience significant change as reform begins to play out. We are already looking into ways to refocus CHCA’s efforts to help you meet those challenges. I see a number of great scenarios for the future — CHCA may find itself working with like-minded strategic partners or it may leverage your exclusiveness to help you succeed and thrive as premier children’s hospitals. Bottom line and regardless of form and structure, we fundamentally understand that we must continue to be nimble and forward thinking to help you chart the new waters of health reform. We are committed to a shared vision — THAT is what will ensure the best possible care of children in our hospitals and within our communities.
